Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures.
- Depending on clinic assignment, may also perform patient reception, phlebotomy/specimen collection duties, rooming patients, and taking vital signs.
- Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available to the radiologist and provider.
- Prepares and positions patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
- Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
- Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
- Immobilizes patient as required for examination.
- Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.
- Initiates basic life support when necessary.
- Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.
- Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
- Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.
- Provides practical instruction for radiography students and other partners.
- Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
- Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
- Utilities appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers.
Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology Certification and Licensure ARRT Radiography registration required IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days of hire
