Overview

NYBCe Blood & Laboratory Operations

Blood & Laboratory Operations (B&LO) is the largest business unit of New York Blood Center Enterprises and is directly responsible for collecting, manufacturing, testing, and distributing blood products to customers. Blood products are collected at ~60 donor centers across 17 states and several thousand mobile sites. B&LO supplies nearly one million blood products, runs more than 450,000 laboratory- and multi-assay infectious disease tests, and performs more than 12,500 specialty clinical procedures for our customers nationwide every year.

Summary:

This position is responsible for optimizing long-term efficiencies by identifying, developing, implementing and monitoring process improvement initiatives while incorporating best practices/standard operating procedures to drive technical operational excellence.

Job Responsibilities:

    Oversees technical and quality assurance processes for Collections, including deviation reports, audits, error management and self-assessments.
  • Provides leadership and oversees ancillary Collections departments, including but not limited to technical support and operational Performance.
  • Lead, coach, develop and mentor staff providing oversight to Divisional Collections training working with Director of Blood Collections Learning Enterprise.
  • Oversees the departmental budget, expenses, FTE's, labor and capital expenses.
  • Works closely with collection leadership, quality and other department leaders to identify deficiencies and develops, processes, policies and procedures compliant with FDA and other agencies.
  • Works with Optimization and Integration in the evaluation and implementation of initiatives that provide technical support or operational solutions that results in increased efficiencies.
  • Ensures performance of required apheresis instrument/products licensor submissions.
  • Oversees equipment validation test plans/reports working within Enterprise guidelines.
  • Leads and promotes compliance of all regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures and practices as they relate to the collections department.
  • Monitors and provides key performance indicators to Collections' leaders to facilitate the achievement of collection, quality, scheduling, and other operational goals.
  • Collaborates with direct and indirect cross functional partners to promote the effectiveness of quality and technical processes.
  • Ensures pre and post donation process is complete, and all information is captured, documented and evaluated and products are appropriately managed.
  • Verifies all donor reaction information is reviewed and assessed for medically significant issues.
  • Ensures final operational review is completed in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and approves all follow-up actions in management systems and looks for related errors and trends.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Beachelor's Degree is preferred

Experience:

Minimum 8 years managerial experience

Experience in donor apheresis or performing duties in a related area preferred

Project management experience is preferred

Previous experience in process change management or technical writing preferred

Any combination of education, training and experience that has supplied the necessary

Other:

Valid Driver's License
