This position will be a technical expert in the Engine Research Center. The individual will assist with research proposal development and help to lead funded efforts. The individual will assist our DERC engine research consortium by providing an industry perspective to help guide future research directions and to recruit new companies to the consortium. This position will also help to mentor graduate students on funded research projects and will provide technical expertise for those projects. The position at times may work with our InterPro professional development organization to develop course materials.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. Publishes and presents results to help advance research

  • Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

  • Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures

  • Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures

  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities

  • Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information

  • Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding

  • Advise and collaborate with InterPro Associate Dean and other InterPro leadership to plan future curriculum for professionals related to power and propulsion. Develop, propose, and teach course materials and courses to be offered by lnterPro.

  • May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $80,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 20 years of experience in engine combustion research post PhD with experience in engine 1-D modeling, combustion chemistry modeling, thermal barrier coatings for IC engine applications, and research project management.

  • At least 15 years of engine research experience in industry post PhD


Education:

PhD in Mechanical Engineering required
