The Department of Dermatology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine invites applications for a federally-funded Research Scientist position. This role will focus on studying Epithelial Biology and Cancer Biology in the laboratory of Dr. Carolyn Lee, Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Lee's lab investigates how genetic alterations and changes in cell signaling pathways culminate in skin disorders, including keratinocyte cancers and inflammatory diseases. Our research combines genomic approaches with animal and human skin tissue models that provide a tractable and clinically relevant platform to study epithelial biology as well as tumorigenesis. Genome editing through a combination of CRISPR/Cas9 and recombinogenic adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors further enables disease-associated mutations to be introduced into the endogenous alleles of human cells. Our goal is to discover new therapeutic targets or vulnerabilities that will ultimately pave the way for improved treatment paradigms. Our laboratory offers a rich experimental environment that encompasses both basic and translational research. Please see our most recent publications at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/carolyn.lee.1/bibliography/public/. The Research Scientist will lead and collaborate on the design and execution of experiments aimed at enhancing our understanding of skin biology and developing new therapeutic concepts for disease prevention and treatment. Prior experience in molecular biology, oncology, and assay development is highly preferred. Additionally, expertise in bioinformatics, including analysis of bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing data and machine learning, as well as experience working with trainees, is also desirable.
