This position can be located atour Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Diego, Downtown LA, or Long Beach, California offices, or remotely from your home office at the discretion of the Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. You should expect to work closely with experienced professionals who will help integrate you into Geosyntec's culture as you advance to this next stage of your career. As a Mid-Career professional, you may be asked to take on technical project delivery, project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff management and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

    2D/3D Seismic interpretation and wireline log QC (e.g., Petrel);
  • Create static geologic models using petrophysical inputs for carbon capture and storage applications (e.g., Petrel);
  • Assist in the interpretation and analysis of various geologic data including boring logs, geophysical wireline logs, geophysical surveys, and more;
  • Build geologic, hydrogeologic, and contaminant plume models using 3D geostatistical modeling software (e.g., Earth Volumetric Studio [EVS] and Leapfrog);
  • Communicate analyses through written reports and presentations (in-person and virtual);
  • Contribute to technical and process leadership of EPA Class IV permitting;
  • Task and project management, including planning and implementing challenging technical projects involving subsurfacemodeling for remediation and groundwater management as well as carbon capture utilization and storage;
  • Exploration and development in the areas of mining and oil & gas;
  • Collaborate and assist in growing Geosyntec'sCarbon Capture Utilization and Storage(CCUS) business;
  • Client relationship management including effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business, while taking an active an increasing role in developing proposals, and generating business opportunities with both new and existing clients;
  • Strategic planning and technical direction for multidisciplinary environmental projects, including but not limited to CCUS;
  • Increasing visibility in the marketplace through regular contact with regulatory personnel, current clients, participation in client-based professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events; and
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.G.) or the ability to obtain one within 1-2 years of start date. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 7 years (8+ years preferred) direct environmental consulting experience in the Western United States; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated experience with subsurface geologic modeling. (required)
  • Class VI compliance and permitting experience. (preferred)
  • Experience in effective management of projects, including responsibility for resource allocation, quality, technical oversight, and financial management. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in developing new business and managing clients. (preferred)
  • Experience presenting at industry events and conferences, and to industry clients. (preferred)
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Experience mentoring and managing professional staff. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Expertise with Petrel software seismic interpretation and static modeling. (required)
  • Expertise with three-dimensional (3D) modeling and visualization software (e.g. Earth Volumetric Studio (EVS), Leapfrog, etc.). (preferred)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as R, Python, SQL, or Matlab. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Fieldwork and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $91,505/year / Maximum Salary: $153,725/year (Ventura)
  • Minimum Salary: $95,865/year / Maximum Salary: $161,055/year (Santa Barbara, San Diego)
  • Minimum Salary: $100,225/year / Maximum Salary: $168,370/year (Long Beach, Los Angeles)
