FUNCTION Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works, parks, and other City facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is performed under general supervision of the Director of Public Service and Public Works Foreman.
NATURE OF WORK Work involves responsibility for performing duties primarily requiring physical exertion. Work involves the use of manual tools or routine tasks and use of small power tools and equipment. Work may involve the use of automotive equipment, motorized equipment, and heavy machinery incidental to regular duties. Tasks range over a wide variety of municipal activities, including light and heavy physical labor. Tasks require a variety of motions to include standing, walking, lifting above shoulders, bending, twisting, and stooping. Exposure of varying weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Performs heavy manual labor for extended periods under sometimes unfavorable conditions. 2. Lifting objects up to 80 pounds. Occasional lifting of object over 80 pounds with assistance. 3. Climbing of ladders and working in tight or confined spaces. 4. Operation of heavy equipment, skid loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, leaf vac, chippers, snow plows, salt trucks, front end loaders, excavators, and similar highway and construction equipment. 5. Clean and maintain vehicles, tools and equipment used in the course of work. 6. Maintain streets, highways, sidewalks, water lines, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, parks, rights of ways, and City facilities, perform necessary maintenance, repairs, landscaping, mowing, and other assigned duties. 7. Assist in performing repairs and maintenance of street signs, and water utilities, including water meters. 8. Make repairs to and maintain City buildings; perform janitorial work; set up for meetings and events; move furniture. 9. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 10. Work cooperatively with other employees. 11. Performs other related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid State of Ohio vehicle Class B Commercial driver’s license. (Those with current,
valid Class A Commercial driver ’s license will receive preference.) Those without a Class A Commercial driver’s license must attain one within one year of employment.
- One to two year recent, successful employment in outdoor work, vehicle and equipment
operations and/or the performance of heavy labor for extended periods of time.
- Those with any of the following receive preference:
-Ohio EPA water certifications -Recent successful public works experience -Demonstrated skill in operating tools and equipment such as tractors, backhoe, loader, skid loader, roller, etc.
