About this opportunity:

The University Supervisor is an adjunct faculty instructor in the Teachers College (TC) under The Office of Teacher Education Services and Clinical Practice (OTES-CP). The supervisor serves as the liaison between TC and the P12 school where teachers candidates are placed for their student teaching experience. The primary function of the university supervisor is to provide guidance for the teacher candidate in their development of teaching competency, complete assessments which demonstrate that competency, and lend assistance to the mentor teacher.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

  • Attend University Supervisor Training sessions each semester as well as defined University Supervisor meetings.

  • Complete, at the minimum, 6 official visits to each P-12 school per student teacher. Should a student teacher need additional guidance, it is expected that the university supervisor conducts more visits.

  • Conducting pre- and post-conference meetings for every formal observation to assist in improving instruction, analyzing problems, identifying strengths, and reflecting on teaching effectiveness.

  • Completing required evaluation forms and assessments as outlined and aligned to InTASC pre-service teacher candidate standards.

  • Ensure all student teaching requirements, of the teacher candidate are completed.

  • Communicate regularly with assigned teacher candidates and their mentor teachers.

  • Suggest specific strategies or approaches to improve competency in each teacher candidate.

  • Assist teacher candidates in identifying and collecting appropriate activities for their edTPA portfolios.

  • Act as a critical and resource for teacher candidates as they face the challenges of teaching and learning.

  • Assign a grade for each teacher candidate by using the appropriate rubric.

  • Supervision in the Germany Student Teaching Experience in Ramstein, Germany requires additional responsibilities including pre-departure planning and meetings with students and OTES-CP.

  • Supervision in the Germany Student Teaching Experience requires training in the Science of Reading. If the applicant does not have formal training that can be verified, they will need to complete provided training by Ball State University.

  • Additional onsite responsibilities while in Germany (including, but not limited to, assisting students with gaining documentation, being visible in the schools, and maintaining regular contact with students), and post-return responsibilities including reconciliation of the budget and guiding students in a presentation for future participants in the program.

  • If this is the first time an individual will be in the Germany supervisory role, and have not been a supervisor before, then they must make time the semester prior to visit and/or shadow with a veteran university supervisor.

  • Supervisors must be available to observe and conference with teacher candidates during the school day.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University supervisors must have a bachelor's degree in a field of teacher education by date of appointment, hold or have held a teaching license in that field, and have successfully taught in the field in which they are licensed. An individual who has had administrative responsibilities related to teacher education is also eligible.

  • Supervisors must also have the ability to work with our candidates and mentor teachers in a professional, pleasant, cooperative, and collaborative manner. Supervisors must have the means to travel to multiple school sites within a specific area, and be able to navigate and working within the University's database and website systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervision in the Germany Student Teaching Experience requires training in the Science of Reading. If the applicant does not have formal training that can be verified, they will need to complete provided training by Ball State University.
