Job Description

This mid-level position is designed for an experienced environmental health and safety professional who will provide comprehensive laboratory safety support to the campus research, veterinary, and medical communities. The role requires applying advanced knowledge and sound judgment to support compliance, promote safety, and deliver expert guidance across a wide range of environmental health and safety programs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Laboratory Safety section by conducting inspections, evaluations, and investigations of MU-owned research, teaching, medical, veterinary, and auxiliary facilities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university environmental regulations.
  • Perform chemical inventory and high-hazard material identification across MU-owned properties, ensuring accurate tracking, safe storage, redistribution, and compliant disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities, campus divisions, and university stakeholders on environmental compliance matters, including reporting, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Provide educational resources, training, and guidance to the campus community on laboratory safety, hazardous materials management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports to assess program effectiveness, track cost savings from chemical redistribution, and support continuous improvement of hazardous materials services.
  • Communicate effectively with administration, faculty, staff, and students on compliance expectations, safety initiatives, and program outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to advance Environmental Health & Safety operations.
Shift

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in a related or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. degree in a related or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

At least three (3) years of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) experience, including exposure to chemical inventory management and inspection disciplines.

Prior laboratory experience or familiarity with laboratory operations and safety practices.

Familiarity with chemical inventory systems and strong awareness of chemical hazard management, including hazardous materials challenges common in higher education, research, veterinary, or healthcare environments.

Demonstrated proficiency in business writing, reporting, and use of spreadsheet and data management software.

Ability to collaborate and work effectively with a diverse campus population, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

Must currently possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days, a valid Missouri Driver's License.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Ssary Range: $60,000 - $74,000 per year
