BASIC PURPOSE
The Social Services Pantry Worker supports the daily operation of the food pantry. These operations include but are not limited to receiving, organizing and distributing food to individuals and families in need. This position requires compassion, organization, comfort with providing ministry, and maintaining an environment of dignity and respect. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and assist clients with professionalism and kindness in line with The Salvation Army values.
- Prepare and distribute food boxes or pantry goods according to established guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of food distribution and client services in compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Assist with stocking, sorting, and organizing food donations and inventory.
- Ensure cleanliness, sanitization, and order in the food pantry and storage areas.
- Sort and inspect food received, paying close attention to expiration dates.
- Uphold food safety standards and assist with regular inspections.
- Support seasonal programs (e.g. Thanksgiving and Christmas food distribution and Back-to-School event) as assigned.
- Refer clients to additional Salvation Army or community services when appropriate.
- Work cooperatively with volunteers and staff to support a unified team environment.
- Model compassion and uphold the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Comply with all confidentiality policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Must be able to work at both Social Services locations - Fairfield and Vallejo
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with a diverse community.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (ie. data entry, reporting software).
- Willingness to uphold Christian values and support The Salvation Army's mission.
- General work schedule of Monday - Friday or designated pantry days which varies by location. Occasional evenings or weekends.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.
- Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
- Able to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
- Capable of reaching overhead.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
- Capacity to process written, visual, and/or verbal information
