The Automotive Cooling System Architect will play a key role within our dynamic team, focusing on the design and validation of thermal management concepts for both conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric/electrified vehicles (xHEV). Your responsibilities will include translating vehicle and propulsion system requirements into specific cooling system and component specifications, generating thermal management concepts, supporting the design team in implementing these concepts, and developing and executing verification and validation testing. You will also contribute to system integration by applying best practices and methodologies such as Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace engineering, or a related degree field
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive engineering, with a focus on designing and releasing cooling system components
- Strong knowledge of thermal management and cooling components, including radiators, condensers, fans, pumps, valves, heaters, and related hardware
- Solid experience in interpreting CFD and CAE analyses
- Good experience with cooling and vehicle-level testing, including data acquisition
- General proficiency in CAD design
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science Degree in Engineering
- Translate and cascade vehicle and propulsion system requirements into system-level requirements and communicate them to sub-system teams
- Design thermal system schematics based on vehicle and propulsion system requirements
- Lead the implementation of technical solutions, provide recommendations, and contribute to roadmap development for cooling system programs
- Ensure component standardization and leverage synergies across global platforms.
- Deliver cooling system performance scorecards at key gates and reviews in alignment with the PSDP process
- Maintain consistent communication with the Thermal Architect team
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the cooling architecture meets performance, safety, and quality standards, supporting overall vehicle objectives
- Work closely with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to integrate cooling components seamlessly into the vehicle architecture
- Take a leadership role in managing supplier relationships, ensuring alignment with project goals and delivery of high-quality components
- Drive program milestone achievement by coordinating tasks, resources, and activities within the project timeline
- Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) principles to support robust product development and launches
- Use software tools such as CATIA V5, Unigraphics NX, Vis Mockup, and TeamCenter to design, visualize, and communicate component designs effectively
- Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools to perform simulations and analyses, optimizing component designs for efficiency and performance
