Our department strives to ensure the proper accounting and financial reporting for the acquisition, surplus, and disposition of the University's fixed assets in compliance with university, state, and federal policies and guidelines.
The Surplus Property Coordinator is responsible for coordinating surplus property activities for the university, ensuring proper accountability, meeting reporting requirements, and safeguarding of assets declared surplus. The position ensures the effective utilization of state property through redistribution and regulates disposal of surplus by determining the most effective and efficient methods. The Coordinator interprets and complies with university and state policies and procedures.
The Surplus Property Coordinator supports the mission of Fixed Assets and Surplus Property by providing superior customer service to our customers within and outside of the University, as we ensure the prudent fiscal stewardship of the University's assets. Duties and Responsibilities: The Surplus Property Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the surplus property warehouse activities and maintaining the Surplus Property database of items in inventory, with tracking of receipts and disposals by surplus ID number. This position maintains an organized and neat warehouse, and ensures the safe operation of warehouse equipment.
The duties of the Surplus Property Coordinator include: *Prepares surplus property reports, descriptive details, and pictures for surplus items to be advertised on the on-line auction website, GovDeals.com. *Conducts transfers to other state agencies, sales to localities or approved non-profits, donations, auctions, and recycling projects in accordance with University and Virginia Procurement and Surplus Property policies. *Maintains the administrative record keeping of surplus warehouse activities to ensure fiscal accountability and integrity of surplus property inventory data. *Reports surplus property transactions by JMU identification number for updating official University fixed asset records. *Coordinates a surplus property redistribution program to ensure effective utilization of state property. *Maintains JMU's surplus property website providing digital images of available surplus inventory. *Communicates with other state agencies who may be able to utilize JMU surplus. *Serves as member of Moves Committee and keeps manager apprised of moves that will impact the surplus property operation. *Participates in the review of surplus property operations and possible conversion of the surplus property database to Oracle ERP and assists in implementation of the Fixed Assets module. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Working knowledge of inventory control, warehouse operational procedures, and warehouse material handling equipment. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures. Attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively with others. Ability to organize and control a receiving and redistribution operation. Ability to schedule work activities and interpret and apply established policies and procedures. Experience in working with PC based applications and maintaining detailed records.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without an accommodation and operate departmental pickup truck with lift gate. Forklift certification required. Additional Posting Information: Conditions of Employment: Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
