Position Summary

Work with a friendly campus community as one of our Building Environmental Service Technicians! This is a Custodian/Housekeeper role responsible for cleaning and disinfecting campus buildings.
Responsibilities include:

  • Daily routine cleaning and resupply of assigned work areas
  • Basic cleaning functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, and removing trash.
  • Filling dispensers (such as tissue and soap dispensers) to appropriate amounts with proper product
  • Clean restroom floors, commodes, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and dispensers
  • Detail cleaning of assigned area, such as dusting and glass cleaning
  • Project-related tasks such as floor care, deep restroom cleaning, and occasional custodial outdoor tasks
  • Submit supply requests on a regular basis as directed by supervisor
  • Turn laundry in for regular cleaning, monitor equipment for malfunction, and correct minor equipment issues such as replacing vacuum bags or filters
  • Collaborate with peers, assisting where needed, sharing resources and information, and by providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Communicate professionally with other staff members, complete mandatory forms such as sign in/sign out for attendance and university property/equipment.
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe working environment by reporting equipment malfunctions, adhering to safety standards, and labelling and storing materials appropriately.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The purpose of this organizational unit is to provide basic, detail and project-specific housekeeping services to all University buildings.

Describe the specific job duties related to this competency
Includes, but is not limited to, daily routine/detail cleaning and resupply of assigned work areas in a timely manner. Performs basic cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, removing trash, etc. Fills dispensers, such as tissue and soap dispensers with the proper product and appropriate amounts. Clean restrooms (to include sweeping and mopping floors, commodes and urinals, sinks, mirrors and dispensers. Detail cleaning of assigned area, high and low dusting, glass/lobbies. Project-related tasks such as floor care, deep restroom cleaning, and occasional custodial related outdoor tasks are expected to be performed as directed. Improvement of cleaning performance is stressed and should be accomplished while adhering to departmental practices regarding green cleaning policies/processes, safety policies, and assigned routines. Staff members are also expected to perform absentee coverage as directed.
Staff members are expected to submit supply requests on a predetermined date as directed by supervision while utilizing departmental request forms. Staff members are also expected to utilize only chemicals and supplies provided by the university department. Laundry should be turned in for cleaning and retrieved per supervisory direction on a regular basis (as defined by supervision) and staff members are expected to monitor equipment status for malfunctions and submit updated information to the supervisor and/or team leader on a regular basis while advising them on changes to equipment locations and providing feedback when repair is needed. Staff members will also be expected to be able to diagnose the correct minor equipment issues (e.g., vacuum cleaner bags/filters) and clean equipment/closets per departmental schedule.
