PURPOSE:


The Developer is responsible for building, maintaining, and growing internal and external Mall of America technologies in collaboration with the entire MOA team. This role includes writing, reviewing, and managing code to deliver business value. It also will contribute to AI-powered initiatives utilizing techniques such as machine learning models and LLM integrations, helping the organization adopt and scale intelligent technologies that improve operational efficiency and decision-making.



Rooted in data-driven development practices, this includes improving existing features with an eye on sustainability and maintainability, troubleshooting applications and code-related concerns, and developing new features. Through your work on things like the website, digital directories, ecommerce environment, custom internal applications, and more, you'll help improve both the guest experience and internal operations.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical and AI-enhanced solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain custom applications, websites, and mobile apps.
  • Operate in a flexible environment that includes balancing and shifting between multiple top priority items with a focus on delivering regular incremental results.
  • Write exemplary, well-tested, and well-documented code with a focus on sustainability and maintainability while utilizing data-driven development practices.
  • Participate in ongoing maintenance and enhancement of existing internal applications to meet continually evolving requirements, as well as development and implementation of new applications and projects.
  • Contribute to AI development projects, including integrating machine learning models and LLMs into internal tools and workflows.
  • Support AI pilots and MVPs by building durable, measurable solutions.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary agile teams that include business, AI, and IT professionals in an agile development methodology.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production/program errors, including those related to AI model performance or data pipelines.
  • Install routine patches, perform regular maintenance, and provide support for break-fixes for existing software and applications.
  • Document software specifications and train users on both traditional and AI-enhanced systems.
  • Ensure branding and structure consistency in collaboration with marketing teams.
  • Collaborate and assist others though ideation, planning sessions, and code reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with teams across various functions and departments.
  • Periodic on-call rotation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or 3-5 years of previous development experience.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong coding skills.
  • Comfortable working in a Microsoft Windows environment, including tools like Visual Studio, VS Code, Azure, and MS SQL.
  • Strong proficiency in either Typescript and Node.js, or C# and .NET.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with experience in PHP a plus.
  • Proficiency in a scripting language such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Proficiency in using Git for version control and experience in maintaining clean and organized commit histories/branches, as well as automating deployment pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API services/principles.
  • Experience working with AI tools such as custom machine learning models (including linear programming), OpenAI APIs, etc.
  • Familiarity with using CSS for mobile-first development and responsive UI design.
  • Familiarity with the Drupal ecosystem, especially to write and maintain custom modules, is a plus.
  • Familiarity or experience with Android development (Java/Kotlin) is a plus.
  • Experience with UI/UX design is a plus.
  • Comfortable operating in a small, flexible development environment with a focus on delivering regular, incremental results.
  • Experience in collaborating with non-technical teams to solve technical problems/projects.
  • Understanding of AI governance, ethical considerations, and performance metrics.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as closely with a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new problems and willingness to tackle unfamiliar problems across a range of languages and technologies.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

STARTING PAY:


$66,112 - $82,640

Pay is based on many aspects which vary based on position. These include labor markets and, in some instances, may include education, work experience and certifications.
