Fire control Technician

Position Summary:

As a Fire Control Technician you will provide technical assistance to the shipboard crews in the operation, inspection, problem identification, troubleshooting and maintenance of the Submarine Battle Plan Systems aboard U.S. Navy submarines as a representative of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC). You will interface with U.S. Navy civilian engineers, program managers and logisticians, and equipment manufacturers. You will receive daily work assignments from the SWRMC Branch Head. Additional duties may include logistics, material, and safety responsibilities.

Clearance Required:


  • Must be a US Citizen with an Active Secret Clearance




Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the planning and technical execution of tasks within the Submarine Battle Plan Systems Section.
  • Direct installation and support techniques in all areas of Submarine target detection (SONAR), prosecution for destruction and Fire Control Systems and associated equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance to main FC systems, including procurement, installation, at-sea testing, corrective maintenance, and management.
  • Plan, implement, and execute technical projects and programs for the Submarine Forward Electronics Systems.
  • Ensure interface with in-service engineering agent (ISEA), system program offices and other government agencies and contractors.
  • Interpret technical manuals, apply repair standards, and maintain accurate technical documentation.




Required Education, Skills, and Experience:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, Navy "A" School preferred
  • 4+ years of related experience with Submarine Fire Control and associated components.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining Fire Control systems.
  • Strong technical comprehension with the ability to read and interpret manuals and standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technical applications.
  • 688 Los Angeles-class submarine background highly desired but not required.
  • Fiber Optics Technician Certificate
  • CompTIA Security+ or bachelor's degree in CS, IT, Engineering, or a related field




Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:


  • OSHA 10
  • CPR




Physical Demands and Expectations:


  • Able to travel 10%.
  • Regular physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
  • Ability to work in an industrial shipboard/shipyard environment, climb shipboard ladders and wear all required safety equipment.
  • Able to lift (up to 50lb), carry, and transport heavy equipment and materials required for the job.
  • Able to meet U.S. Navy ship rider requirements.
  • Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
