What to Expect

Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings.

CAE Engineers on the Battery Cell Team are at the leading edge of next generation Tesla products. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing the performance of revolutionary vehicle and energy storage battery Cell designs. This is a new, challenging, very multi-physics, and cross functional role that should have limitless opportunities for challenges and innovation.

Your efforts will be to create and analyze fundamental and one-off investigations spanning mechanical component design, Dynamic System Response, Thermal Runway, and Manufacturing process development. You will be an innovative and skilled problem solver - using all analytical tools available to you. Where these tools are insufficient or do not exist, you will develop novel methodologies to enable fast and accurate solutions. The role requires strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering analysis, a passion to push the boundaries of technology and the tenacity to make designs successful. Our design requirements push the limits of physical possibility, which requires you to be extremely detail oriented in supporting the design engineers that are consuming your analyses.

What You'll Do
  • Provide CAE support by building, running, and evaluating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element (FE) models to capture critical physics
  • Perform fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analyses to understand cell processes and manufacturing
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to drive design progression based on analytical insights
  • Conduct advanced CFD/FEA simulations to evaluate cell components, materials, and system behavior
  • Support multidisciplinary domains (fluid flow, structures, thermal, multiphysics CAE)
  • Correlate CAE predictions with post-test results and refine models
  • Optimize designs using DOE/DFSS techniques to meet performance, mass, and cost constraints
  • Analyze feasibility of manufacturing, assembly, and service processes
  • Contribute to component specifications, DFMEA, and technical documentation

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Intermediate to expert knowledge of fluid-structure interaction, fluid dynamics, structural dynamics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, material science, and computational numerical methods
  • Demonstrated advanced CAE skills through coursework or work experience
  • Experience with explicit/implicit dynamic simulations (e.g., crash, impact, vibration)
  • Proficiency in mechanical/thermal testing (planning, execution, evaluation)
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering analysis and passion for technological innovation
  • Detail-oriented approach to support design engineers effectively
