Open-Rank Faculty Position in Sensorimotor Control and Rehabilitation Neuroscience POSITION SPECIFICS The Department of Kinesiology, in partnership with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Penn State's College of Medicine, invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position in Sensorimotor Control and Rehabilitation Neuroscience at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026. This hire is intended to build on Penn State's long-standing and internationally recognized strengths in sensorimotor control research while expanding our translational impact in neurorehabilitation. We are looking for a scholar with a strong record of research in sensorimotor control and motor learning, particularly someone whose work bridges fundamental mechanisms of sensorimotor control with clinical applications in neurorehabilitation. The ideal candidate will not only deepen our understanding of the neural basis of movement but also develop new approaches, interventions, or technologies to improve recovery after neurological injury or disease. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: neural mechanisms of motor coordination and adaptation, translational studies in stroke or movement disorders, sensorimotor learning and plasticity, rehabilitation strategies grounded in neurobehavioral research, and/or applying innovations such as computational modeling, non-invasive brain stimulation, brain-machine interfaces, robotics, or neuroprosthetics. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in neuroscience, kinesiology, psychology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline. Assistant Professor candidates must show readiness for independent academic work in four areas: 1) producing high-quality, peer-reviewed publications, 2) supervising undergraduate and graduate students, 3) instructing undergraduate and graduate courses in sensorimotor control, neuroscience, and rehabilitation sciences, and 4) pursuing research funding opportunities. Associate and Full Professor candidates must show a sustained track record of obtaining research funding and have the expertise and leadership capabilities needed to enhance scholarly excellence within the Movement Science Program. These criteria are additional to the Assistant Professor requirements. ABOUT PENN STATE: Penn State provides an exceptional environment for interdisciplinary and translational research, with opportunities for collaboration across the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, the Social Science Research Institute, Center for Healthy Aging, and the Hershey College of Medicine. This position is especially designed to connect basic human movement science in Kinesiology with clinical research and application in Neurology, creating a unique bridge from discovery to rehabilitation. The new hire will join a dynamic community of scientists and clinicians committed to advancing both fundamental knowledge and patient care.
