Location: Manassas, VA

Employment Type: Contract to direct hire after 90 days
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; active Secret clearance or ability to obtain
Overview
Acara Solutions is seeking an experienced Advanced Systems Engineer to support our defense client in Manassas, VA. In this role, you will be part of a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the design, integration, and verification of advanced command, weapon, and launch (CWL) systems. This position involves working across system architecture, payload integration, cybersecurity, and embedded software environments to ensure reliable and secure system performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the system engineering and functional design of CWL systems, focusing on payload integration, weapon simulation, and system-level performance.
  • Define and validate system and subsystem requirements, ensuring traceability through design, development, and testing.
  • Support the design of computer system architectures and integration of Linux and embedded operating systems for mission-critical applications.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity compliance and ensure adherence to system protection standards and information assurance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, test, and integration engineers to ensure end-to-end system reliability.
  • Develop and maintain functional interface documents, message exchange specifications, and user interface definitions.
  • Participate in and support system design reviews, customer technical meetings, and formal verification activities.
  • Provide technical documentation, modeling, and simulation inputs to support requirements validation and customer approvals.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering role, defense related.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with computer system architectures, cybersecurity, Linux, or embedded operating systems.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Agile experience.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clear understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, theories, and technical standards.
  • Clear understanding of requirements management and system modelling tools.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity.
  • Team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others.
