OverviewThe Research in Software Engineering (RiSE) Group at Microsoft Research seeks a Senior Research Software Engineer specializing in one or more areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure, Machine Learning (ML) systems, and high-performance computing (HPC) systems. The position involves working closely with ML systems researchers to build and advance state-of-the art open-source AI infrastructure and improving the efficiency and scalability of production systems across the full AI model lifecycle: pre-training, supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement-learning-based post-training, and inference. The role emphasizes advanced software development and collaboration with a diverse team of computer scientists and engineers. ResponsibilitiesDrive high-impact research in AI infrastructure, ML systems, HPC systems, programming reasoning, optimizations, and document processing, with a focus on software development and building large-scale systems. Collaborate to develop and test out new ideas within existing or new collaborative teams. Build and maintain state of the art systems in this space.
