CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

The Product Stewardship Manager will be responsible for leading the response to complex customer regulatory inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate documentation aligned with current regulations, particularly around PFAS and other chemicals of concern. This role will manage the coordination of cross-functional input from Legal, EHS, and Product Stewardship teams to fulfill requests such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), RoHS Certifications, and Prop 65 disclosures. Additionally, the manager will oversee a team of regulatory technicians, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and support business partnerships by maintaining strong stakeholder alignment and delivering high-quality regulatory support across customer systems and internal processes.

(1) Regulatory Inquiries Support:

  • Review and interpret customer inquiries related to technical regulatory issues.
  • Lead the development of appropriate responses and provide information and data to resolve customer regulatory issues.
  • Provide timely support and documentation for PFAS-related regulatory requests. Research and stay current on North America PFAS requirements. Make sure that responses to requested documentation reflect current regulations.
  • Work with the Sherwin-Williams Legal department to fulfill customer confidentiality agreements.
  • Complete requests for regulatory documents such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Environmental Data Sheets (EDS), RoHS Certifications, REACH SVHC Certifications, Prop 65, Red Listed Chemicals, etc.
  • Support customer data systems and ensure accurate entry of product regulatory data into those systems. Display sufficient knowledge to recognize questionable data and assist to resolve to meet data standards.
  • Manage and participate in the completion of customer forms for regulatory data that may include analyzing product composition for chemicals of concern and gathering input from other areas within Product Stewardship and EHS (e.g. Chemical Compliance, Sustainability, VOC Compliance Team, etc.).
  • Provide support to business product stewards as needed on customer projects.
  • Identify internal stakeholders and communicate customer issues or concerns to them, as appropriate.
  • Assist Sherwin Williams Legal department with retrieval of historical regulatory documents.

(2) Team Management:

  • Ensure that all team members understand roles, responsibilities, and interfaces with other EHS, Sustainability, or Product Stewardship groups, as well as any key internal stakeholders.
  • Implement cross training, as needed, to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Coach and develop the Sherwin Williams Reg Tech team; identify skill gaps, execute development plans, provide feedback, and manage performance.
  • Identify skills and knowledge necessary for job performance; recognize top performers among direct reports and identify and remove barriers to high performance.
  • Complete performance evaluations, goals, and succession plans in a timely manner.

(3) Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement projects that bring efficiency or cost savings across the Product Stewardship function.
  • Provide leadership and technical support for the development of automated Regulatory Data Sheets.

(4) Business Support:

  • Promote and maintain internal and external business connections and strategic partnerships; maintain alignment among stakeholders to focus on desired outcomes.
  • Partner with related organizations (either internal or external) to ensure that stakeholders are satisfied and issues are resolved in a timely manner.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or related field from an accredited institution

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 5+ years' experience in product stewardship or regulatory affairs
  • Knowledge of North America PFAS requirements and regulations

Preferred:

  • 8+ years' experience in product stewardship or regulatory affairs
  • 3+ years' experience in direct employee supervision, including goal setting and performance evaluations.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of global product and chemical regulations

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient use of Adobe Acrobat to compose documents
  • Use of a wide variety of IT applications

Preferred:

  • Experience in paint and coatings industry
