Biotage is seeking a strategic Director of Operations to lead and direct the U.S. Operations Team-driving production, procurement, and quality control. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in leadership, with significant experience leading teams and operations. They will demonstrate the ability to guide strategy, drive performance and lead through change delivering strong results.
Roles and responsibilities
- Provide leadership and coaching to the Operations Team, with a focus on operational efficiency and continuous improvement driving competitiveness, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide strategic planning to position the Operations team to consistently meet business demands
- Direct the objectives and priorities for Production, Procurement and Quality Control
- Promote continuous improvement at all levels of operations
- Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity
- Maintain a vendor management program that demands quality and on-time delivery
- Optimize inventory and associated inventory management
- Maintain detailed documentation, KPIs and performance reports for all US Operations sites
Scope of Responsibility
- Direct and develop an operations management team over (currently) two facilities
- Ensure the production team consistently builds products that meet established quality standards
- Foster and promote a collaborative environment throughout the organization with other departments globally
- Negotiate and monitor third party supply agreements.
- Proactively identify operational, strategic, and compliance risks across functions. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity, operation efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Effectively communicate cross functional operational strategies, changes, and updates across all levels of the organization.
- Champion continuous improvement by driving Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve quality and performance across the organization.
- Align Operations objectives and priorities with overall Biotage business needs, adjusting as required
- Maintain inventory accuracy, and optimize inventory levels to maximize inventory turns and DSI
- Develop innovative solutions to improve productivity
- Build and maintain productive relationships with all department leaders
- Oversee the Production Manager, Purchasing Manager, and Senior Manufacturing/Quality Engineer in Salem and the Supply Chain Manager and Warehouse Leader in Charlotte.
Skills and experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher, in relevant technical or operational discipline.
- Proven leadership with extensive senior management experience within operations role.
- Comfortable working with data and metrics to track key performance indicators and support decision making (Excel)
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence, negotiate and resolve conflicts
- Knowledge and experience in Lean and Six Sigma processes & systems is highly desirable
- Self-motivated, resilient and results-driven, with a proactive and independent mindset.
- Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills, able to build strong cross-functional teams.
Travel Required
This is a Salem, NH facility-based position but will require travel to the Biotage facilities in Charlotte. Travel to the UK and Sweden as required.
