Position description

Accent Instructor for MFA acting students.

The Department of Drama seeks qualified applicants for a position as a part-time lecturer for Winter Quarter 2026 in the curriculum area of Graduate Acting.

We are seeking an experienced instructor to teach graduate-level accent and voicework for second-year MFA acting students in Winter Quarter 2026 (with possibility for an additional class in voice and text work in Spring 2026). The class runs for 10 active instructional weeks and meets twice weekly. This class fits into the broader MFA Acting curriculum and equips students to vocally embody a range of characters in their theatrical work. The class focuses on building skill in analyzing accents; the specific accent examples used in class are selected with the present needs of the students in mind.

Candidates for this position must have strong professional credits and a strong commitment to teaching, training, and working in a university environment. Candidates must demonstrate a pedagogical and professional profile that is compatible with distinguished graduate training at a major research university. Candidates should show a demonstrated ability and commitment to work effectively with a diverse student population. Previous teaching experience of MFA actors is desired.

Key Responsibilities:

* Teach and guide students in a variety of accents, adapting the content to meet their specific needs.

* Incorporate established voice methods such as Fitzmaurice Voicework and Knight-Thompson Speechwork.

* Facilitate students' work towards the accurate, specific, expressive, and contextualized performance of accents.

* Teach accents in the context of teaching acting and text work.

Qualifications:

* Advanced degree in Theatre, Voice, or a related field.

* Proven experience teaching accents and dialects at the graduate or undergraduate level.

* Familiarity with voice methods like Fitzmaurice and Knight-Thompson Speechwork.

* Experience with text work and Shakespearean performance.
