Summary |
The Department Chair and Director of Nurse Education Program is the nursing program administrator. In working with the nursing faculty, the Director is responsible for providing leadership for the educational program and implementing the program in accordance with Maryland Board of Nursing policies. Learning outcomes are maintained at a level to meet approval standards of the Maryland Board of Nursing (
MBON) and Howard Community College (
HCC). Standards and criteria for accreditation through the Accreditation Commission for Education In Nursing, Inc. are maintained and reviewed on a regular basis to assure compliance. Maintain a reduced teaching load consistent with a 12-month faculty director position. |
Essential Role Responsibilities |
Provide leadership to the faculty in curricular and student issues
Review curriculum materials and instructional processes for consistency and quality
Serve as initial resource when student problems are not resolved
Establish unit goals and generate plans of action to affect curriculum
Participate in the revision of core work to reflect the mission, goals and objectives of the college
Recommend full and part-time faculty appointment
Coordinate teaching schedules of full-time faculty, and staff
Evaluate full-time faculty and staff per college policy and procedures
Oversee coordination of teaching schedules for part-time faculty
Oversee evaluation of part-time faculty per college policy and procedures
Assist with the assignment of substitute instructors, as necessary
Participate in the preparation and administration of the budget
Formulate and implement policies pertinent to the program, including, but not limited to:
Admission and progression
Advanced standing
Transfer and articulation
Withdrawal
Reinstatement
Evaluation
Graduation requirements
Competency in oral and written communication of the English language
Facilitate written agreements with cooperating agencies
Assure that all publications pertaining to the nursing program are clear, accurate, and current
Ensure that all students participating in clinical practice settings meet the functional abilities to provide safe client care.
Conduct regular meetings with nurse faculty keeping minutes showing activities, recommendations and decisions.
Attend nursing meetings concerned with Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing at regional, state, and national levels.
Submit required reports to
MBON, accreditation agencies, and other reports and surveys as requested
Verify current Maryland licensure and educational credentials of full and part-time faculty
Provide orientation program for full and part-time nursing faculty and staff
Conduct classroom and clinical visitations for nursing faculty and recommend faculty development workshops
Recommend course substitutions and waivers for students
Participate in student recruitment, advisement and retention efforts
Prepare and confirm list of candidates eligible to write licensing examination for
NCLEX-RN and
NCLEX-PN
Convene and Chair Nursing Advisory Board
Oversight of progression from associate degree nursing to the baccalaureate degree
Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity. |
