Responsibilities

University Behavioral Center, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is committed to providing intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. Our mental health facility provides safe and effective inpatient treatment to assist individuals in leading more productive and fulfilling lives. The facility is located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, and includes 112 licensed beds. We are currently seeking qualified professionals with active/clear license in the state of Florida. Previous experience in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program is required.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Admissions assists the Director of Admissions with the administrative oversight and direction of the hospital's Admissions Department This position provides supervision to a staff of specialists in the provision of patient access to care and behavioral health assessment services, including call management, clinical evaluations for level of care, crisis intervention, admissions and referrals. This position interfaces closely with the hospital's medical staff, nursing staff, department leaders, and administration, as well as external referring agencies and payers. The Assistant Admissions Director is responsible for assisting with departmental adherence to policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, service excellence, and data entry/management. In addition, the Assistant Admissions Director assists in the development and management of processes related to efficient and smooth admission processes. The Assistant Admissions Director reports directly to the Director of Admissions and will assist in interviewing/hiring new staff, staff supervision, clinical case consultation, coordination and organization of day-to-day activities that will enhance effectiveness of the Admissions Department and security to ensure smooth admissions processing for referral sources, families, staff and patients

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Supervises the Assessment & Referral and Admitting department employees in their daily activities in the director's absence.
  • Enforces all hospital policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
  • Educates and supervises staff in compliance with staff development in-service programs.
  • Obtains pre-certification as needed for patients being admitted into the hospital for care.
  • Works in partnership with UM team on issues with new admissions, missing authorizations and/or delays in securing authorizations, as needed.
  • Has a working knowledge of insurance verification and benefits.
  • Provides consultation to intake and admitting staff regarding referral information and screenings.
  • Performs audits on the intake call log, including correcting discrepancies, and educating staff on inconsistencies.
  • Provides information to patients and referral sources regarding treatment programs, insurance information and admission procedures.
  • Works a schedule that is conducive to the needs and objectives of the department and hospital.
  • Communicates with physicians, program directors, nurse managers, etc. regarding anticipated admissions.
  • Provides follow-up to referral sources and patients awaiting admission.
  • Performs phone screening evaluations to determine appropriateness of admission to the hospital, in consultation with the staff psychiatrist or Medical Director.
  • Provides referral assistant for patients assessed as being inappropriate for admission.
  • Maintains accurate census board and reports for senior management.
  • Collects records and analyzes admitting statistics and reports these to required offices
  • May be required to work on call.

Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health, nursing or a related field. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: License required.

Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting desirable. Working knowledge of the Addiction & Recovery field and experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities, and working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

Must have strong management skills with ability to effectively communicate with staff, ensuring proper employee performance management.
