Primary Purpose of Department
The mission of Facilities Management is to provide a quality learning, research, and living environment for the benefit of students, faculty, staff, and the community by planning, building, operating, and maintaining the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the University Sustainability Officer ( USO) is to develop and manage programs that address university strategic goals and ensure compliance with policies and regulations for environmental stewardship
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • The primary purpose of the University Sustainability Officer (USO) is to develop and manage programs that address university strategic goals and ensure compliance with policies and regulations for environmental stewardship
  • Manage and lead the sustainability team and various University-wide initiatives and programs.
  • Create, set & evaluate sustainability goals.
  • Balance the competing needs and available resources to achieve stewardship across the dimensions of business management, development, energy use, operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Clearly & effectively contribute to the development of operational & project planning the sustainability choices and trade-offs to maximize the impact of practices that fulfill the requirements of the position.


Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field; and 10 years of progressively responsible experience in sustainability, including at least five (5) years in a leadership role.

  • Experience in the Sustainability field.
