As an Engineering Intern, you will work in the Laser Diode department of IPG to help produce state-of-the-art laser technologies in our Oxford MA facility. The Engineering Intern will integrate into the engineering team and be given their own project relevant to their skillset to complete for the summer. The intern will be guided by engineers of several disciplines during their project and be exposed to a high-tech manufacturing environment. In addition to working towards the completion of their project, the intern will learn the responsibilities of being a full-time engineer and if successful will start to provide engineering support outside of their project. The intern will report on their progress to engineers/managers throughout the internship and demonstrate their accomplishments before departing. Successful candidates are often invited back for subsequent internships and are considered for full-time openings leading up to graduation.

Requirements

Qualifications:



  • Must be enrolled in an engineering degree program in area listed below or similarly relevant area.

    • Microelectronics
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Nanofabrication
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Materials Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Optics/Thin Films
    • Robotics or Mechatronics


  • Rising Junior or Senior in undergraduate program, just graduated, or graduated and is continuing their education.
  • Based on engineering degree program:


    • Experience designing and completing experiments
    • Experience completing multi-faceted projects with engineering relevance
    • Experience working with a team
    • Turning ideas into reality


  • Relevant Extra-Curricular Activities, examples below:


    • Previous Internship/Co-op
    • Robotics, Rover, or Drone Team
    • Academic Research Lab
    • Formula SAE
    • 3D Printing
    • Rocketry


  • Relevant Technical Skills, examples below:

    • CAD (Solidworks)
    • Programming
    • Data Analysis (MatLab, Python, Igor, Excel)
    • Metrology Tools (SEM, AFM, Profilometry, XRF, etc)
    • Engineering Principles
    • Scientific Method




Personal Requirements:



  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills required for interaction within group and other departments
  • Results-oriented, with ability to multitask
  • Aptitude to learn new systems, technologies, and processes
  • Professional and motivated attitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of their relevant coursework
  • Work consistent regular business hours, in person, for the duration of the summer.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Temporarily relocate to area surrounding Oxford, MA

Pay Range:


The pay range on this posting applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location posted, the applicable range could differ. Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.



Benefits Provided Interns receive:


- Medical Insurance (BCBS Saver plan, no company match) - eligible after 90 days of continuous employment working 20+ hours per week
