The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Compliance and Training Coordinator (CTC) reports to the Director of Office of the Institutional and Animal Care Use Committee (IACUC) and works closely with other staff members. The CTC is assigned to specific physical areas where animals are used or to specific lab groups or protocols for compliance monitoring.

Responsibilities




  • Attend IACUC protocol review and regular meetings.



  • Disseminate information/advice on various aspects of the animal care and use program for Columbia University researchers who participate in animal-related activities.



  • Maintain knowledge of current information and issues regarding laboratory animal science and engage in professional development activities.



  • Visit and assess animal care and use facilities and investigators' laboratories to assure high-quality oversight of all research and teaching activities involving the use of animals and to ensure compliance with federal regulations, nationally accepted standards, and Columbia University policies.



  • Report results and findings of the facility and laboratory assessments to the Director.



  • Conduct a review of animal use records to ensure consistency between records and the IACUC-approved protocol.



  • Conduct pre-review of protocols to ensure completeness and compliance with federal regulations.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of laboratory animal experience.


Preferred Qualifications




  • Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) certification preferred.



  • Ability to work and communicate positively and effectively with researchers, veterinarians, and other CTSs;



  • Strong knowledge of regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use of laboratory animals;



  • Strong knowledge of laboratory animal science, including familiarity with all of the commonly used species of animal;



  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities;



  • Keen attention to detail.
