LEAD LAUNCH ENGINEER (STARSHIP LAUNCH PAD ENGINEERING) RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of engineers to design and build Starship launch infrastructure
- Own the hiring process, new hire training, technical and professional development, and performance review of all direct reports
- Lead a project team of engineers and contractors throughout the entirety of the civil and structural engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning process
- Develop and issue drawings, design documentation, and reports for aerospace, industrial, and commercial type projects
- Perform both civil and structural design and analysis calculations for structural steel and concrete
- Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
- Manage the civil and structural aspects of construction projects
- Interact with contractors, fabricators, owners, and clients
- Provide direct onsite engineering inspections and field observations
- Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
- Translate between civil/structural industry standard CAD programs (Civil 3D, Revit, Autocad, etc.) and SpaceX standard CAD programs (Siemens NX) to ensure accuracy of construction
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering
- 3+ years of professional experience in civil/structural engineering design, analysis, and drafting
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience where quick thinking and tangible problem-solving skills play a critical role
- Demonstrated experience fostering an environment of extremely high personal accountability and responsibility
- Understanding of other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveying
- Experience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Experience with SAP 2000, STAAD Pro, RISA-3D, Etabs, or similar analysis software
- Experience with multi-acre land development projects that include due diligence, site layout, utilities, drainage, and permitting
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying lightweight materials or equipment (ability to lift up to 35 lbs. unassisted)
- Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain
- Perform work occasionally in an environment with exposure to fumes, odors, and noise using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Must be able to work extended hours, rotating shifts, and weekends
- Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
