Job Summary:

Intermediate Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential "wet" hazards. Intermediate Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed. The Animal Imaging Irradiation Shared Resource (AIISR) is a campus-wide advanced technology Core, operated under the umbrella of the CU Cancer Center. The AIISR is the only comprehensive animal imaging and radiation treatment program in the State of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region, providing scientific expertise and services in the area of animal imaging (ultra-high field MRI, CT, optical bioluminescence and fluorescence, ultrasound, PET/CT, SPECT/CT) and image-guided and targeted radiation therapy (XRad, MultiRad).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other Animal Imaging Irradiation users campus-wide

  • Utilize a variety of cutting-edge equipment within the Animal Imaging Irradiation Shared Resource required for research projects by all animal researchers

  • Perform image acquisition and radiation treatment delivery according to the established IACUC-approved SOPs

  • Support image analysis and help in preparation of image data repoerys to the AIISR users

  • Assist the AIISR manager and senior staff in performing QC/QA on all imaging scanners and irradiators

  • Provide animal care during image acquisition (induction of anesthesia, iv injection of contrast agents and radioactive tracers) and radiation delivery according to the established IACUC-approved SOPs

  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed

  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions

  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required

  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions

  • Independently review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects

  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives

  • Provide training sessions for AIISR users on IVIS Spectrum and Scintica ultrasound scanners, as well as on MultiRad irradiators

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Being on the emergency list to trouble-shoot MRI scanner/ super-conductive 9.4 Tesla magnet/ accessories

  • Schedule, report, billing research studies in in iLab

  • Actively participate in educational activities of the AIISR and the Cancer Center

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, Animal Science or related field from an accredited institution

    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

  • One (1) year professional level research in the field related to the bachelors degree and much be earned after the degree was achieved.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors related to medical physics and/or image analysis

  • Experience in animal handling and animal imaging

  • Experience and ability to handle rodents

  • Experience and ability to work with complex machinery

  • Experience and ability to maintain an activity log and iLab records

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of technology- or veterinary-based SOPs

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Knowledge of basic animal anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology

  • Knowledge of an animal research facility

  • Planning and organization skills

  • Ability to teach and lead others by example

  • Ability to work with multiple investigators and teams

Condition of employment: Because of MR safety, the candidate cannot have any pace-makers, infusion pumps or other magnetic devices in their body

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE (minimum - 40th posting max).

Intermediate: $50,357-$64,054

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
