UMSL GEOSPATIAL

Job Description

The Business Support Specialist II will provide professional administrative and fiscal support to the UMSL Geospatial Collaborative, a unit within Academic Affairs focused on geospatial science, technology, and workforce development. This position is grant-funded through the NGA Geospatial Workforce Development initiative and plays a key role in ensuring effective business operations, compliance, and project coordination.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of the UMSL Geospatial Collaborative and Business Manager in the fiscal and administrative management of grants, contracts, budgets, and other financial activities for the Geospatial Collaborative.
  • Support the processing, documentation, and monitoring of budgets, funding allocations, purchasing, travel, payroll, and reimbursements in compliance with university and sponsor policies.
  • Establish and maintain internal accounting and recordkeeping systems, coordinating with campus finance and grants administration offices as needed.
  • Prepare financial reports, spending summaries, and tracking spreadsheets to support grant oversight and project deliverables.
  • Coordinate meetings, events, and communications across university, government, and industry partners (e.g., NGA, T-REX, and Taylor Geospatial Institute).
  • Perform a range of administrative tasks including correspondence, scheduling, office management, and personnel documentation.
  • Review transactions for budget impact, authorization, and policy compliance; report any variances for review or correction.
  • Serve as a central liaison for the Collaborative, providing information and administrative support to faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Support activities related to recruitment, retention, outreach, and community engagement that advance the mission of the Geospatial Collaborative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position supports a project funded by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which limits participation in the project to citizens of the United States. As a result, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position.

Shift

40 hours/week. Monday thru Friday

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Prior experience in a business support role or a related field is preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all populations.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $18.00 - $22.00 hourly

Grade: GGS-007
