Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Reading, and Special Education Department is housed within the College of Education. The primary mission of this department is to offer high-quality education for future educators in early childhood, elementary, middle grades, reading, and special education. This department focuses on equipping prospective teachers with the skills needed to effectively facilitate learning across these diverse educational levels.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The College of Education at Fayetteville State University is seeking an innovative Tenure-Track Faculty member for the Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Reading, and Special Education Department. The ideal candidate will possess a doctorate in Early Childhood, Birth through Kindergarten, Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. The primary responsibilities include teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, evaluating student learning outcomes, and engaging in curriculum development and academic advising. The successful candidate will also actively participate in departmental and college-wide committees, contribute to maintaining rigorous academic standards, and demonstrate proficiency with modern educational technologies and methodologies. This role demands a commitment to scholarship, as evidenced by research activities and publications. A robust dedication to the principles and mission of public higher education is essential. Preferred qualifications include at least three years of effective teaching experience in public schools or in a licensed early childhood education program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A Doctorate in Early Childhood, Birth through Kindergarten, Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.
  • A valid license in early childhood education, covering birth through kindergarten, is also required.
  • At least three years of full-time teaching experience in public schools or an early childhood education program, with an appropriate license. Key professional skills for the role include comprehensive pedagogical knowledge, robust research and communication abilities, and proficiency in utilizing modern educational technologies.
  • Experience in curriculum development, academic advising, and active participation in academic committees is also essential, as it significantly contributes to the candidate's ability to support the department's mission and goals.

Knowledge skills and abilities:
Must be committed to excellence in teaching and advising and to working in an environment that fosters diversity and encourages effective assessment. Collaborate with colleagues within the school, university, and region; demonstrate knowledge of the Common Core Standards and instructional implications of major assessments; show evidence of knowledge of and the ability to use educational technology and digital teaching and learning; show evidence of scholarly activity; display a commitment to public higher education.

  • Three or more years of teaching at the university level.
