SUMMARY
Performs routine maintenance to ensure shops continue to run smoothly and building systems operate efficiently; and repairs or replaces defective equipment by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straight edges.
  • Aligns and balances new equipment after installation.
  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery and equipment.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems and determines how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Inspects, operates, and tests machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassembles equipment.
  • Estimates repair costs.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures such as sheds and outbuildings.
  • Inspects drives, motors, and belts; checks fluid levels, replace filters, and performs other maintenance actions, following checklists.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Requests parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms.
  • Records maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
  • Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Interpretate electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics to diagnose equipment issues.
  • Installs replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. Communicates with customers via phone and in person.
  • Performs scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance tasks on forklifts, building, and machinery beyond the capabilities of the assigned machine operators.
  • Cleans and organizes work area.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Two-Year Technical Diploma from Technical College; or one to two years related experience and a High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos, as well as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Working with/around oils and chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Working outside in weather conditions. Working in areas with elevated temperatures. Working in areas with low temperatures.
Working at heights up to 35 ft.
