Position Overview
The director position oversees and provides direction for the student recruitment and PharmD program admissions programs including the design, implementation and evaluation of program initiatives. Responsibilities include the supervision of staff members; communicating regularly and building relationships with prospective students; managing selected correspondence; and planning and executing on- and off-campus programs. The director is responsible for evaluation and interpreting data to assist the School of Pharmacy in reaching enrollment and accreditation goals as well as liaisons with other KU offices and transfer partner institutions.

This is a full-time, 12-month, staff position with some travel required. This position will work primarily on the KU Lawrence campus, with in-person days on a set schedule, and remote or hybrid work based on the recruitment location needs. This position requires occasional travel to perform the listed duties, as well as occasional evening and weekend hours.

Job Description
35% - Program Administration and Admissions Cycle Management
  • Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of recruitment and admissions processes.
  • Conceptualize, design, implement and evaluate School of Pharmacy activities, events, processes and policies associated with recruitment and admissions for programs to ensure alignment with goals and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and participate in growing an outreach program.
  • Provide stewardship over recruitment and admissions data, including oversight of responses to internal and external data requests. Report on key data to the schools' leadership.
  • Supervise and manage program staff. Facilitate staff development and engagement. Complete annual performance reviews. Ensure effectiveness and accountability.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on program improvements in driving connectivity between the marketplace and Pharmacy School to serve the needs and goals of KU students.
  • Work in collaboration with the School's Communication Manager, Program Directors, KU Office of Admissions, and Graduate Studies to create overall recruitment plans, and to adjust strategies and tactics as needed.
  • Serve as liaison between School of Pharmacy and other KU offices, including but not necessarily limited to Admissions, Financial Aid, Undergraduate Studies, Jayhawk Advising, Student Information Systems, Enrollment Management/Registrar, International Admissions, MS/PhD programs.
  • Provide direction for marketing and public relations activities for the School of Pharmacy with respect to recruitment and admissions and collaborate with School's Communications Manager to edit recruitment materials including Pharmacy website content and Slate interfaces therein.
  • Develop the departmental budget and provide fiscal oversight
35% - Enrollment Management
  • Assist in developing a prospective student pool and cultivating relationships with prospective students from inquiry to enrollment.
  • Meet with prospective students in person, virtually/online, and at events.
  • Implement recruitment strategies for appropriate student populations.
  • Manage the calendar for and participate in on-campus and off-campus recruitment efforts including KU Office of Admissions visit days, site visits to postsecondary transfer institutions, college fairs, and conferences.
  • Manage prospective student visits and appointments.
  • Coordinate with the KU Academic Success staff to follow and support efforts to retain students as they move through the School of Pharmacy programming.
  • Serving as an admissions counselor to pre-pharmacy students. Facilitate communications with applicants, faculty, alumni, and other interested parties concerning the process of application to the School.
  • Provide feedback to rejected applicants on ways to improve their candidacy in a future application cycle.
25% - Application Review
  • Assist with the review of all applications, including file review and contact with admitted students.
  • Conduct initial review of application.
  • Assess academic strength and other qualifiers for admission.
  • With attention to detail, track and record decision making.
5% - Service and school support
  • Represent School of Pharmacy programs at local, regional, and national professional recruiting or admission events.
  • Participate as an active team member of the school including attending staff meetings and serving on School or University committees, as directed.
  • Perform other duties related to the nature of the position and mission of the School as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of progressive, related experience (recruitment, admissions, student affairs, sales/customer service)
  2. Two years of progressive leadership responsibility and supervisory experience.
  3. Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials, as well as excellent oral communication skills (to be confirmed by interview and references).

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in relevant student services related discipline.
  2. Progressive experience working in a higher education environment as evidenced by application materials
  3. Experience in marketing as evidenced by application materials
  4. Three or more years of progressive leadership responsibility and supervisory experience.
  5. Understanding of KU recruitment/admissions operations, process & policies as evidenced by application materials
  6. Familiarity with the programs at the School of Pharmacy and/or healthcare disciplines as evidenced by application materials
  7. Experience with PharmCAS and/or Slate CRM database
  8. Ability to travel local, regional, or national for recruiting or admission events (to be confirmed by interview).
  9. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and deliver program objectives as reflected in application materials.
  10. Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills, as demonstrated by work history.
