The Engine Build Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all engine development and validation builds run smoothly and efficiently. This includes ensuring that all components are ordered per the build plan and timed to arrive in time for the planned builds. Once the parts arrive, the Engine Build Supervisor ensures they are reviewed for accuracy by the DRE's and stocked appropriately to be used for the build. The Engine Build Supervisor manages the team in charge of the Build BOM for each build, ensuring accuracy of the part numbers, quantities, NIKs and change levels.

Other duties include:



  • Provide any training that team members need
  • Communicating clear instructions and workflow to team members
  • Monitor team members' participation to ensure the training/processes provided are being put into use and determine if any additional training is needed
  • Manage the flow of day-to-day operations
  • Create reports to provide updates to the Engineering team of the build team's progress
  • Distribute reports to the appropriate organization Supervisors
  • Provide direction to engine build coordinators on new engine program protocols
  • Make recommendations to supporting engine groups for process improvements
  • Recommend best practice for Issue Resolution
  • Facilitate updates to current dyno build coordination processes to improve efficiencies
  • Develop RASIC chart to define responsibilities between powertrain groups and the dyno build coordinators
  • Forecast and schedule Engine builds with multiple plant locations
  • Forecast and schedule Engine test properties with Sci-Labs
  • Issue Work Orders for Engine Build, PowerTrain Vehicle Garage, Machine Shop & Materials Metrology Lab
  • Analyze material orders and hold twice weekly Phase Build meetings with Engineering
  • Provide twice weekly updates of any material or build issues with Engineering & Sci-Labs
  • Work closely with Engineering to define proper Phase Build Content
  • Provide Phase Build Content to Engine build sites to ensure proper Build content
  • Provide Monthly & Yearly Workload Forecast to Powertrain Operations Management & Sci-Labs
  • Resolve all build issues resulting from BOM and material discrepancies
  • Follow experimental Engines through the Pre-Production Approval Process as they are released to production
  • Adjust timing for future Mule/Pilot builds based on material or engine availability
  • Generate PDB Master BOM's from EBOM. Chair master BOM reviews w/engineering
  • Submit PDS BOM's for sign off
  • Chair weekly build & test planning meeting
  • Create shippers, gate passes, move requests, and manage overseas shipments of material
  • Back-Up for Vehicle Build Coordinators & Transmission Build Coordinators

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree field
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience managing prototype build activity for engines, EDM's, batteries or other complex vehicle components
  • Good understanding of the process necessary to order all material needed for a prototype build, including planning, organizing, identifying suppliers and contacts, requesting quotations, following up, creating requisitions, obtaining Purchase Orders, and working with Engineering to define component details and ensure that components arrive on time and are dimensionally correct and to print
  • Able to manage a team of specialists to coordinate delivery of material, material moves both within CTC and to and from external locations, achieving engineering signoff for receipted material, and stocking material in proper locations.
  • Good understanding of database systems such as PDS and PDB, with ability to create and manipulate build BOMS, run shortage reports, etc.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Masters Degree in Engineering
  • 15 years of experience managing engine builds at Stellantis and / or other OEM's
  • Proven track record of managing engine, battery, or EDM builds to meet target build dates
  • Thorough knowledge of STLA departments, systems and processes involved in engine build planning and execution
