What to Expect
As a Process & Quality Engineer within the Residential Energy team at Tesla, you will play a critical role in driving process improvements to ensure high-quality solar products and services. This role focuses on optimizing operations across sales engineering, solar system design, construction, inspections, and supply chain processes to achieve happy customers, reduced costs, and shorter cycle times. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, deploy, and validate changes that maximize throughput and first-pass yield metrics, while also supporting the rollout of new products and processes for both direct and channel businesses.
This position must based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What You'll Do
- Track performance metrics, prioritize top issues, and drive continuous improvement activities with cross-functional teams for residential solar installations
- Create process maps and models to inform rigorous process simulations
- Conduct time studies and productivity flow charts to quantify ideal and actual performance metrics for solar installation efficiency
- Analyze data from across the Tesla ecosystem to expose, highlight, and evaluate process trends
- Manage projects and processes for new product introductions and sustaining products, developing standard processes, work instructions, quality standards, and troubleshooting steps for install teams
- Maintain tool and part catalogs, test new tools and parts, and evaluate changes to tools and parts
- Focus on improving cycle times, key performance indicators such as efficiency, yield, and profit, and simplifying process structures
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical), other technical discipline, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of experience as a process engineer, project manager, operations manager, or similar role in an operations environment
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically (5-10%)
- Knowledge of energy system installation and design requirements, familiarity with electrical code, or knowledge of construction and roofing techniques
- Field experience in solar installation or similar fields in residential construction such as roofing or energy storage
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish effective working relationships throughout the organization
- Demonstrated analytical skills with familiarity in basic SQL as a plus

Expected Compensation
$84,000 - $126,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
