The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education, and exhibition.
The Communications department is seeking a full-time Digital Media Asset Manager to effectively organize the department's growing library of photography and video for proactively managing its efficient use in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Asset Manager works closely with media production teams to optimize production workflows, maintain general media catalogs and create and manage project-specific collections. They ensure that internal teams can access and deploy visual assets, often with quick turnaround times. They serve as a resource for teams across the Museum to help staff locate the right visual content and understand how to use it, as well as to raise awareness of what is available in the catalog or to identify gaps.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Manage media catalogs that support the production, organization, distribution and preservation of digital content (photography, video and associated media and documentation), on the institutional Orange Logic DAM, ensuring that assets are searchable and up to date.
- Continue and complete migration of media asserts from legacy DAM to Orange Logic DAM, with a focus on the video catalog.
- Maintain a comprehensive and consistent metadata system for photo and video assets to optimize searchability and support alignment with long-term preservation standards.
- Work closely with teams responsible for photography and video production to support production and manage the timely ingest, cataloguing, retrieval, archiving and delivery of media assets to internal and external partners.
- Respond to photo and video requests from internal teams, helping staff identify and access assets that align with their needs and brand guidelines for production of materials for marketing campaigns, membership campaigns, corporate relations outreach and educational resources, among others.
- Track licensing, appearance releases, permissions and usage rights for photography and video to ensure they are used within the correct scope.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve workflows and project tracking
- Coordinate with colleagues in the Library on Orange DAM permissions and usability as well as to accession media based on established asset lifecycles.
- Coordinate with Digital and IT colleagues and other partners to implement system backups, customization, upgrades and troubleshooting.
- Conduct regular catalog audits to confirm and enforce metadata standards.
- Provide regular systems reports and leverage data to anticipate future needs such as storage. Provide usability reports to proactively identify how assets are being used and identify gaps or needs.
- Assist in fulfilling licensing requests for Global Business Development by helping to identify assets that align with content, file format, usage rights and institutional guidelines.
The expected salary range for the Digital Media Asset Manager is $75,000/annual - $80,000/annual. The

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience. |
| Minimum Qualifications |
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in digital asset management.
- Working knowledge of photo and video formats, file types and best practices for media use across a variety of channels.
- Strong understanding of metadata application.
- Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills in service of effective cross-team partnership, consultation, training and support.
- Demonstrated experience keeping up-to-date with digital asset management best practices.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in archival studies, library science, or another relevant field.
- Experience with digital asset management and metadata application for a business or institution.
- Experience migrating assets from legacy catalogues into new systems.
- Experience using Orange Logic DAM.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
