The Infection Control Assistant supports the Quality Management Department staff in developing and implementing the infection control program for the hospital. Duties will be assigned as necessary to help meet the department's goals. These include but are not limited to performing observations on the hospital floor assessing compliance with hand hygiene, operating room infection control practices and environmental cleaning monitoring. The Infection Control Assistant is expected to give direct feedback to healthcare workers when breaches in these practices are observed and has responsibility for entering these data into an electronic database. The assistant, under direction of the Director of Infection Control & Prevention, will offer education and in-service to non-clinical staff such as Housekeeping, Dietary, Facilities etc. regarding proper infection control practices. The Infection Control Assistant will assist in infection prevention performance improvement and research projects undertaken within the department and any other duties as assigned. This position takes direction from Director of Infection Control & Prevention and is accountable to the Department of Quality Management leadership for meeting these responsibilities.

  • Complete online JHM Hand Hygiene Observer Training Module
  • Pass post-module quiz
  • Meet with Infection Prevention to be trained on entering observations into IP360
  • Receive list of units that require hand hygiene observations
  • Walk units and varying times and record hand hygiene compliance
  • Enter observations into IP360



QUALIFICATIONS



Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.
  • Ability to teach informally and formally in both small and large groups; ability to interact effectively with personnel in a wide range of hospital and university positions.



Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:

None



Work Experience:

One year of administrative or other relevant work experience.




Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
