Position Highlights

The Finance Coordinator is part of the Accounting Team within Finance Strategy & Solutions (FSS), a unit withing the Finance & Budget division. They provide advanced financial management and accounting services for FSS partner units, focusing on operational support and service. This role applies managerial accounting principles to support the accounting cycle, provide for the integrity of the financial record, and ensure adherence to university policies. The position collaborates with the Finance Strategy & Solutions team, to deliver accurate and efficient financial processing, in addition to technical consulting, while also helping support the unique missions and operational needs of supported partner units.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a service mentality, with a propensity for relationship building, in addition to a baseline level of traditional accounting skill and finance experience. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and curiosity in the development of value added service solutions, that depend on leveraging technology, initiative, and creativity.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Transaction Processing and Approval:

  • Support the management of daily financial activity by performing and submitting financial transactions using the university accounting system.
  • Review and prepare journal entries and documentation in compliance with policy using a varied array of tools and financial applications.
  • Support asset management and inventory processes for partner units.
  • Handle internal and external billing processes.

Financial Advice, Compliance, and Analysis:

  • Provide guidance on policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Respond to financial inquiries and support internal controls for partner units.
  • Conduct transactional research to resolve discrepancies.
  • Perform reconciliation of accounts and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  • Prepare various financial reports, including profit/loss and balance sheets.

Managerial Accounting & Strategic Support:

  • Collaborate with functional teams and partners to interpret financial data.
  • Participate in month, and year end close as appropriate.
  • Recommend corrective actions based on performance metrics and trends.
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Calculate applicable taxes and ensure adherence to tax regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • A capacity to explore and utilize various accounting-based software platforms in addition to an aptitude for basic business applications.
  • Firm understanding of GAAP and the accounting cycle.
  • Strong knowledge of business principles and managerial accounting.
  • Ability to interpret and affect complex transactional and financial adjustments.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant financial management experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
