Range Technician Lead

Fort Rucker, Alabama

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs duties as supervisor for the Range Maintenance Section. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. This position may provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians. Supervises the development of range scenarios for automated ranges based upon unit requirements. Operates remote computer stations in support of automated ranges based upon unit scheduling. Provides digital recordings of unit training in urban operations sites upon unit request. Facilitates the use of fog machines and remote man- pack control stations upon unit request. Supervises and can perform all functions of subordinate members of the range maintenance section. Plans and implement sustainment training for the section. Serves as a Range Support Specialist and performs all functions required to install, test and direct exchange systems used within the Range Control Branch. Supply customers with requirements concerning target and supply procedures and any technical information. Inspect and check systems within technical guidelines as outlined under currently provided publications. Perform all taskings required to bring the range to operational status. Inspects ranges, facilities, trails and training areas for enforcement of Fort Rucker and Department of the Army existing policies, regulations and rules concerning the safety, conduct, police and conditions of the ranges, facilities and training areas.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in related field and or 5 years Facility Management Experience.
  • Collaborates with Range Operations Leadership and Base Operations Organizations to develop systems and procedures for facility maintenance and security; establishes and maintains standards, adequate staffing levels, and schedules.
  • Provides recommendations to Range Operations Leadership for improvements to existing operations.
  • Must be able to teach classes and give briefings, pertaining to safety and range related equipment.
  • Capable of performing preventative maintenance checks and services on equipment used on the range.
  • Must have knowledge of Army small arms weapons, and ammunition.
  • Perform inspection on ranges and training area to ensure safety and enforcement of army regulation.
  • Provide customer assistance and advice in a professional and proficient manner.
  • Serves as primary employee point of contact for all range maintenance activities, issues, concerns, and safety.
  • Selects personnel for assignments, provides training and development, and maintains clear and concise work standards and goals. Overseas and tracks work assignments to completion.
  • Encourages safe and secure work environment and practices.
  • Ensures adherence to all Range Operations policies & procedures, contractual, ethics and safety standards.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Working Environment:

The work environment consists of both office and field settings within the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range and Training Complex. The position may require frequent visits to range and maintenance sites, including exposure to noise, weather, and outdoor conditions typical of live-fire training environments. The Project Manager may be required to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays based on mission schedules and contract needs.
