The Director, DaVita Venture Group is part of the DaVita Venture Group (DVG) and is the innovation arm of DaVita, focused on transforming care delivery to improve quality of life for patients around the globe. DVG will fund, develop and launch products, solutions and business models that improve care for patients suffering from kidney disease and related comorbidities. We are seeking a creative, passionate, and driven corporate development professional with a deep understanding of healthcare to lead our Mergers and Acquisitions team that furthers our strategy and creates new growth opportunities. The Corporate Development team is responsible for all equity-related transactions, including acquisitions, strategic investments, joint ventures, and other forms of structured partnerships with established and some early stage companies.

This is a highly visible role with frequent engagement with the senior leadership team, including the CEO and Board of Directors. Success in the role will be determined by creating high quality M&A opportunities, effectively representing DaVita in the external marketplace and the director's ability to work collaboratively with the broader DaVita Village to complete transactions.

The position is located in Denver, CO. Relocation assistance available.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive market research and support sourcing efforts to help identify new investment trends and opportunities

    • Deal screening: call and/or meet with prospects, evaluate opportunities

    • Network with peers at other strategic investors and within the broader health care ecosystem

    • Be a thought leader, maintaining up-to-date knowledge on industry and technology trends, as well as attending events/conferences

  • Lead due diligence and deal execution efforts

    • Coordinate, perform, and assist in full diligence efforts, leading management interviews and external research to evaluate team, market, competition, product, sales and growth

    • Perform and oversee financial and valuation analysis

    • Draft internal investment memos

    • Coordinate with internal and external counsel on legal and IP diligence

    • Collaborate with DaVita stakeholders to build strategic investment rationale

  • Lead and support deal negotiations with target companies

  • Manage ongoing partnerships with other companies and ensure successful DaVita engagement in the development and integration of their products

    • Guide the direction of partnership portfolio and sourcing efforts

    • Work with internal DaVita teams to ensure alignment to partnership goals and success of partner products and services

    • Be a point of connectivity between portfolio companies and DaVita and support the development of customer relationships

    • Serve on partnership or portfolio boards dependent on partnership governance structure

    • Support portfolio company/product success

  • Build strong relationships within DaVita and the external market

    • Network and learn the guts of the DaVita existing business lanes to understand strategic priorities, initiatives, and strategic value a potential partnership could bring

    • Facilitate involvement of subject matter experts in diligence and strategic assessments

  • Build and lead internal team

    • Support development and engagement of junior team members

    • Develop compelling career paths with junior team members to ensure engagement and fulfillment of junior team

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred

  • Experience in healthcare required, healthcare services strongly preferred; additionally a background in medical device or health technology a plus

  • Experience in investment banking and/or corporate development, management consulting working in an M&A capacity within healthcare

  • Strong strategic mind, able to move beyond superficial value creation hypotheses and identify unique opportunities to add value through M&A

  • Demonstrated problem-solving, quantitative, and qualitative analysis skills

  • Understanding of clinical, operational, and financial drivers that impact healthcare organization decision-making

  • Intellectual curiosity mindset and enthusiasm for the healthcare industry

  • Strong communication (written, verbal, listening, and presentation) skills

  • Highly collaborative work-style, pragmatic, and resourceful problem-solver

  • Capability and desire to build relationships and network within the healthcare industry

  • Responds well to change and has a high tolerance for ambiguity

  • Approaches work with an unparalleled level of personal ownership, responsibility, integrity, and ethics

  • Denver-based; Ability to travel required

The Salary Range for the role is $128,000.00 - $203,000.00/year.
