SALARY RANGE: $70,000 to $80,000 per hour

Position Summary:
The fungal pathogenesis group of Dr. Sumant Puri, in the Oral Microbiome Research Laboratory at Temple University, is seeking a skilled and motivated Associate Scientist for a NIH R01 funded project. The group's research focuses on the effect of host iron on microbial pathogenesis and innate immunity during oropharyngeal candidiasis caused by the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. The lab uses a variety of classical biochemical techniques and molecular biology tools in conjunction with immunological techniques and vertebrate/invertebrate animal infection models to address this role of iron in infection.

Required Education and Experience:
PhD in a related discipline and at least 4 years of experience in immunology, microbiology, or molecular biology of disease-causing microorganisms. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:
*Experience with C. albicans or yeast.
*Experience with murine and invertebrate infection models.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to work independently in driving the research project forward, from experiment-planning to data analysis.
*Must be able to work with a diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and other external contacts.
*Must have great attention to detail and sound judgments with the ability to make independent decision.
*Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational and interpersonal skills.

Essential duties:
*Carrying out all required laboratory experiments
*Analysis of data, and summarizing results
*Preparing progress reports
*Mentoring dental and masters students
*Writing manuscripts for publication
*Additional duties will include assisting students and routine lab maintenance
*Performs other duties as assigned
