TheJacksonville, FL and Ft. Lauderdale offices of Modjeski and Mastersarelooking for Experienced Mechanical Engineers, with a valid FL PE to join the Movable Bridge Business Unit

In this role, you will work on complex, high-profile projects that combine mechanical systems with structural ingenuity, ensuring safe and efficient operation of some of the nation's most critical transportation assets.

What We're Looking For

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer, preferably in Florida.
  • Familiarity designing and inspecting movable bridge machinery in accordance with AASHTO and AREMA design standards


What You'll Do

  • Perform mechanical design and detailing of bridge machinery and prepare contract plans, specifications, and estimates for movable bridges. This may include hydraulic systems.
  • Perform field inspection of mechanical systems of movable bridges. This may include hydraulic systems.
  • Perform CADD work to aid in the development of plans. Design in a 3D environment such as Inventor and 2D CADD experience in AutoCAD preferred.
  • Develop effective presentation skills.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including assisting in pursuing new work and networking with staff at DOT's/other agencies as well as other engineering firms.
  • Be capable of performing a mixture of office and field work.
  • Ability to perform mechanical design and detailing of bridge machinery components as one of the primary project engineers with limited guidance from Project Managers and Senior Mechanical Engineers
  • Ability to perform tasks on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Ability to show effective technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to perform field tasks at heights.

Projects include new design of movable structures, structural, mechanical, and electrical inspection and rehabilitation of existing bridges. Our instrumentation group is housed in this unit and focuses on short term monitoring of bridges and other structures using a wide variety of gauges and instrumentation. Structural, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineers as well as CADD Technicians make up the staff of this unit.
