Overview

As the Infrastructure Lead for the GIS Migration Project, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the success of our GIS infrastructure, driving innovation and enhancing efficiency in spatial data management managing vendor and contractor task. We're seeking someone with a project-focused mindset and a talent for optimizing GIS systems, you will serve as the primary decision-maker for the technical design of the GIS Enterprise Architecture and oversee database management throughout the migration process. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in enterprise systems, deep expertise in infrastructure and hardware design, and the leadership skills to guide the team in delivering a stable and scalable infrastructure platform.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • GIS Portfolio Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of the GIS portfolio, ensuring optimal performance and scalability. Create comprehensive architecture diagrams, considering factors such as memory, CPU usage, and resource allocation. Lead in the architecture, design, implementation, and ongoing operation of existing and new infrastructure technologies.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage the project team through infrastructure workshop, and documentation approval stages. Act as primary decision maker for technicaldesignissues for Con Edison team. Supports SAT/SIT and UAT planning and execution activities. Sign-off of on critical design deliverables. Lead development of infrastructure / hardware architecture. Support the procurement, configuration and hosting of required environments for the project. Manage both vendors and contractors with respect to planning and execution.
  • Server Management: Manage Windows Server systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance. Allocate server resources efficiently to meet GIS project requirements.
  • Implement cyber secured solutions and enterprise architecture (EA) best practices, review existing environment for vulnerabilities and develop corrective action plan with the help of EA and Cyber. Lead initiatives to address cybersecurity directives, devise system security strategies, ensure securing data transfers, evaluate cyber security tools and applications for implementation plan.
  • Project-Oriented Planning: Develop project-oriented plans for GIS infrastructure, ensuring alignment with overall project goals. Knows how to create a process to be followed by other team members. Create documentation on the infrastructure plans.
  • Task Scheduling and Batch Jobs: Schedule tasks and create batch jobs to automate GIS processes and optimize system performance. Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Troubleshoot hardware issues promptly to minimize downtime. Conduct regular maintenance of servers to ensure optimal performance.
  • FTP Protocols and TNS Names for Oracle: Handle FTP protocols for data transfer and manage TNS names for Oracle databases.
  • Ensure thorough monitoring is in place to identify database issues. This involves maintaining databases to ensure data is secure, accurate, and accessible. Responsibilities include implementing security measures, performing regular backups and recovery, optimizing performance, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Collaborate with other teams such as EA and Cyber to coordinate GIS infrastructure activities and ensure seamless integration with broader IT initiatives. Foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring effective communication and coordination among team members. Provide leadership and guidance to the infrastructure team. Appoint information technology workassignments. Maintain relationships with hardware and software vendors.
  • Workshop Participation: Actively participate and engage in workshops, contributing insights and expertise to shape proper enterprise architectures design for GIS. Participates in system architecture relatedworkshop.
  • Documentation: Create, maintain, review and approve comprehensive documentation related to GIS enterprise architecture.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelors degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field. and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. or
  • Master's Degree Masters degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree Masters degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, required.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to wok collaboratively with cross-functional teams, required.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling tasks, creating batch jobs, and optimizing server resources, required.
  • Knowledge of FTP protocols for data transfer and TNS names for Oracle databases, required.
  • Project-oriented mindset with the ability to plan and execute complex GIS infrastructure projects, required.
  • Proven experience in GIS Architecture, specifically in electric and gas utility operations, preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GIS applications and technologies, preferred.
