DESCRIPTION

The job will integrate into the clinical, teaching, research, and distribution system for UC San Diego Health with an emphasis in Infectious Diseases (ID). These activities include but are not limited to: Profile review, TPN order writing, Pharmacokinetics, Renal Drug Dosing, Medication Reconciliation, Chemotherapy Order Review entry and validation in our Electronic Health Record, Precepting Pharmacy Students from the Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, precepting UC San Diego Health PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy Residents, Investigational Drug support, and other activities that optimize outcomes of drug therapy.

The pharmacist shall be an organization-wide expert who plays a critical role in direct patient care and pharmacy operations, with an emphasis in antimicrobial stewardship at UCSDH. The primary role of this pharmacist involves direct patient care, such as order verification, therapeutic drug monitoring, and interdisciplinary team rounding. They are the experts on drug therapy and the primary health professionals who optimize use of medication for the benefit of the patients.

As assigned, this role requires the application of advanced knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship therapy gained through education and specific training in ID based on significant experience in management of patients in acute and ambulatory care settings. With a multidisciplinary team, the pharmacist will participate in antimicrobial stewardship and optimization of antimicrobial therapies in collaboration with infectious disease teams which may involve reviewing antimicrobial use throughout the inpatient facilities and through the transitions of care process. This requires collaboration on various practice guidelines and leading projects of critical importance to the organization involving antimicrobials that directly make an organization-wide impact. This may include collaborating on multidisciplinary quality improvement projects. The pharmacist will collaborate with all areas within the pharmacy department for ID specific initiatives.

Under general supervision, responsible for provision and documentation of medications and medication-related services to patients, according to standards established by the Department of Pharmacy. Serve as preceptor to pharmacy residents and students as assigned. Participate in Medical Center and Departmental committees and promote institution-wide medication use policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or equivalent clinical experience (acute care pharmacy experience in a hospital setting).
  • Registered Pharmacist - issued by the state of California (RPH).
  • Minimum experience qualifications for this position can be met in 1 of 3 ways: 1) possesses a PGY2, OR 2) possesses a PGY1 plus 1 year of pharmacist experience, OR 3) possesses four (4) years of pharmacist experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of Inpatient Pharmacist Experience.
  • Experience working at a large, academic institution.
  • Experience working in the area of Infectious Diseases.
  • PGY2

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $188,609 - $212,350 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $90.33 - $101.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
