HDR is seeking a Transportation Planning Coordinator to help expand our services in the Midwest, with a focus on Missouri and Kansas. The position would report to a senior traffic and planning project manager in Kansas City, Missouri. The individual in this position supports all aspects of transportation planning projects that may include: Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in planning, engineering, public administration or related discipline.
- Experience developing transportation or mobility plans, Vision Zero/Safe System plans, small-area or complete streets plans.
- Direct experience working for or with municipal agencies.
- 1-3 years of experience with grants and grant-writing.
- 2+ years of experience in transportation planning or engineering, including one or more of the following:
- Master/secondary plans
- Highway or transit infrastructure projects
- Environmental assessments
- Traffic operations studies
- Simulation modeling (macro/meso/micro)
- Safety studies
- Active transportation studies
- Traffic impact or traffic management plans
- Familiarity with Kansas and Missouri transportation planning policies and guiding documents.
- Ability to support corridor analysis, alternatives evaluation, and multimodal planning tasks.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working independently and within fast-paced multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent technical writing and report preparation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to evolving project needs.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills with agencies, elected officials, and community groups.
