The RoleThe Associate Manager, Project Engineering is a people first leadership role responsible for developing, coaching, and guiding a team of Project Engineers while ensuring the successful delivery of high quality technical solutions for Aspen Tech's utility customers. This leader balances team leadership, customer engagement, and technical oversight, enabling project delivery excellence across complex, multi disciplinary initiatives.
Based out of the Medina, Minnesota campus, with travel to customers and company sites as required, this role plays a key leadership role in supporting energy generation, transmission, and distribution customers while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Your Impact

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Project Engineers to deliver projects across a range of scales and complexities.
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and coach team members on both performance and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and psychologically safe team environment where individuals are empowered to raise risks, share ideas, and learn from outcomes.
  • Demonstrate ownership and accountability by proactively identifying challenges and driving solutions rather than escalating issues prematurely.
  • Allocate resources, balance workloads, and remove obstacles to enable sustainable performance and predictable project delivery.
  • Serve as an escalation point for technical, delivery, and customer issues, guiding resolution through sound judgment, influence, and calm decisionmaking.
  • Partner with crossfunctional leaders to align priorities, staffing needs, and delivery commitments while constructively navigating tradeoffs.

Technical Oversight & Execution

  • Own project delivery outcomes, ensuring alignment with contractual commitments, quality standards, and customer expectations.
  • Lead customer interactions, building trust through clear communication, expectation setting, and transparent issue management.
  • Translate customer and contract requirements into executable project plans and communicate effectively across internal teams.
  • Represent AspenTech confidently in customerfacing discussions, technical reviews, and executivelevel conversations as needed.
  • Contribute to sales support activities, including technical presentations, solution positioning, and product demonstrations.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, integration, testing, and commissioning of AspenTech control systems.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in power systems, electric utility operations, or project engineering with demonstrated people leadership responsibility.
  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, or managing engineers (formal or informal), ideally 2+ years in a supervisory or teamlead capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and develop individuals while driving team accountability and results.
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Power systems and electric utility operations
    • Realtime control systems
    • Client/server applications and network communications
    • UNIX / Linux / Windows operating systems
    • Software programming and scripting (Python, C / C++)
    • Experience with databases and data formats such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, JSON, and XML.

Preferred

  • Ability to provide technical guidance and oversight without needing to be the primary handson contributor at all times.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to lead through influence.
  • Excellent analytical, problemsolving, and decisionmaking capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced, customerfocused environment.
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction, delivery excellence, and team engagement.
  • Hybrid work model: 4 days per week in the office.
  • Up to 20% travel as required.
The salary range for this role is $109,600.00 - $137,000.00. This range represents what we in good faith believe is the range possible for base compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors. This range may be modified in the future. This role is also eligible for bonus or variable incentive pay. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, charitable giveback day, medical/dental/vision insurance, and retirement benefits to eligible employees.
