Genesis10 is currently seeking an IT Governance Specialist to work on a fully remote, 12-month contract role with our healthcare client in Phoenix, AZ.

Compensation: $80.00 - 90.00 per hour W2, depending on skill and experience level.

Position Summary
We are seeking an IT Governance Specialist to help establish and mature foundational IT governance across a large healthcare/government-adjacent organization. This role focuses on bringing clarity and accountability across IT- defining ownership, responsibilities, vendor accountabilities, and consistent operating rhythms.

Key Responsibilities
Governance & Accountability (Primary Focus)
  • Define and document ownership models for systems, processes, vendors, and technology outcomes.
  • Build and maintain RACI matrices, accountability maps, and governance playbooks.
  • Establish regular governance cadences with IT directors, managers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Identify gaps in ownership or unclear decision rights; drive clarity and alignment.
  • Support leadership in implementing right-sized governance routines that improve transparency and predictability.
Governance & Policy Management
  • Develop and maintain IT governance policies, procedures, and standards that are practical and scalable.
  • Ensure alignment with industry frameworks (NIST, COBIT, ITIL) without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Contribute to governance metrics, dashboards, and reporting that highlight accountability and operational maturity.
  • Recommend improvements to simplify processes, clarify roles, and reduce operational ambiguity.
Compliance & Risk Support
  • Assist in maintaining basic compliance readiness (HIPAA, PCI, SOX, etc.).
  • Support internal/external audit activities, including evidence preparation and documentation updates.
  • Identify process gaps or risks and collaborate with owners to develop actionable remediation.
Change Management & ITSM Alignment
  • Reinforce adherence to IT change management processes; ensure responsibilities and expectations are understood.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, security, and engineering teams to clarify roles during change review, assessment, and approval.
  • Help improve change processes to enhance efficiency while maintaining system stability and governance quality.
  • Track and report on change metrics and trends.
Documentation & Process Enablement
  • Develop SOPs, governance process documentation, onboarding guides, and training materials.
  • Support configuration, maintenance, or usage of GRC/ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Archer, Jira).
  • Facilitate periodic governance reviews and ensure documentation remains accurate and adopted across teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with IT Security, Infrastructure, Applications, Vendor Management, PMO, and business stakeholders to align governance expectations.
  • Provide guidance to teams on roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and governance principles.
  • Participate in modernization, vendor transition, and operational improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5+ years experience in IT governance, IT operations, ITSM, IT audit, or GRC roles.
  • Proven ability to bring structure to ambiguous environments where accountability is unclear.
  • Familiarity with NIST, COBIT, ITIL, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills across director, manager, and technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated capability in documenting processes, RACIs, and role definitions.

Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, government contracting, or military-support organizations.
  • Hands-on exposure to ServiceNow, Archer, LogicGate, or Jira for governance or change workflows.
  • Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, CISA, CRISC, CGEIT, Security+, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer.
  • Military background or active support of military populations is highly valued.
