Position Summary

The Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology has long been a leader in advancing women's health care. Located at the heart of CUIMC's vibrant medical community, more than 100 physicians and over 40 post-graduate residents and fellows work together alongside researchers and clinicians across CUIMC to meet women's health care needs. We remain committed to our mission to provide the best patient care, to train future Ob/Gyn leaders, to support innovative research, and to bring those innovations into clinical practice.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology seeks a distinguished academic gynecologic oncologist to serve as the next Chief for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, comprised of six full-time faculty members and four nurse practitioners. The Chief will lead and grow the clinical service that offers a full range of services including surgery and chemotherapy to its patients.

The Division has a commitment to academic development and has a strong research enterprise in clinical, translational, and population-based research. Additionally, the Division supports an ACGME accredited fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology.

The incoming Chief will possess successful administrative experience as a leader at an academic institution; national reputation for personal academic accomplishments; experience with development of physician and a reputation for mentorship and demonstrated financial and business acumen.

Job Description

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Chief of Gynecologic Oncology will play a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the gynecologic oncology service. This leadership position will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care, promote innovation in the field, and contribute to the growth and success our organization. This leader will be engaged in administrative leadership and developing robust clinical and research programs.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership



  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for gynecologic services
  • Lead and inspire a team of healthcare professionals to achieve departmental goals
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate gynecologic oncology care into the overall healthcare strategy


Clinical Oversight



  • Ensure the delivery of evidence-based, patient centered gynecologic oncology care
  • Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, quality of care, and patient satisfaction
  • Provide guidance on complex patient cases and consult with healthcare teams


Educational Oversight



  • Collaborate with the Director and Co-Director of the ACGME accredited Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship
  • Participate in medical education and promote gynecologic oncology throughout the Medical School curriculum


Program Development



  • Identify opportunities for program expansion and enhancement
  • Introduce innovative care models and services to meet the evolving needs of patients
  • Foster research and education initiatives in gynecologic oncology


Team Development



  • Train and mentor clinical staff
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members


Regulatory Compliance



  • Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and accreditation standards
  • Monitor and address any issues related to regulatory compliance


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Degree



  • MD or equivalent
  • New York State Medical license required
  • Board Certified in Gynecologic Oncology
  • Sub-specialty Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology
  • Minimum 5-8 years of clinical experience in gynecologic oncology
  • Academic scholarship and proven commitment to teaching and academic medicine
  • Proven leadership experience in healthcare management
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and quality standards
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and compassionate service


Preferred Qualifications

New Jersey Medical License (telehealth)
