We are actively looking for a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Baltimore office. As part of the Water Resources Group, the Sr. Water Resources Engineer prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates in support of civil, drainage, and stormwater projects. They will serve as technical lead on projects and, as appropriate, oversee junior engineering staff on projects that include surface water hydrology & hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine/ coastal restoration and protection.

Designs stormwater and drainage systems. This position also develops surface water hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic modeling, performs engineering calculations to solve problems related to surface water and drainage. They will analyzes system flow, flood risk, and mitigation alternatives and are responsible for addressing local, state, and federal flood management regulations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates, in support of final bid packages
  • Serves as technical lead on projects and, as appropriate, oversee junior engineering staff on projects that include surface water hydrology & hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine/ coastal restoration and protection
  • Participate in design activities and meetings between project team members, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, feasibility, cost, construction approaches, and scheduling performance
  • Prepares written and graphic reports and makes presentations
  • Prepares various draft documents, including reports and technical memoranda.
  • Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways
  • Assists in developing grants for regional clients
  • Perform numerical modeling in support of stormwater and drainage improvements projects
  • Perform 1D and 2D riverine hydraulic modeling

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering: required
  • Master's Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering; preferred
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Certificate
  • Broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with team members and project managers
  • Background and/or experience with engineering analysis and design of various project types including a combination of:
    • Civil, drainage, and stormwater design and plan preparation
    • Site plan design and development
    • Floodplain mapping and floodplain management
    • FEMA Floodplain Regulations and Standards
    • Stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling; stormwater and drainage infrastructure permitting and design
    • Watershed assessment & planning
    • Urban flood risk and floodplain management
    • Flood protection and resilience
    • Low impact development/green infrastructure
    • Preparing project scope and fee proposals
    • Construction principles, including survey, inspection, and engineering methods and materials, and surveying methods and techniques
  • Working knowledge of software programs and techniques, which may include:
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM, Infoworks ICM, ESRI GIS, Microsoft Office
