This is a full-time, limited term employment opportunity until the end of the Spring 2026 semester. The expected end date for this role is May 23, 2026. Under the supervision of the Dean, this instructor will teach assigned classroom and shop courses for the Diesel and Powertrain Servicing Technical Diploma program. Duties include development and teaching of all Diesel and Powertrain Servicing courses. Instructor should be able to explain theory, demonstrate proper servicing techniques facilitating student learning of the course objectives. Serves as a resource person to Diesel and Powertrain Servicing students and faculty, complies with and reinforce safety and service standards, and serves as a model of professionalism with which students may identify. In addition, this position also provides Diesel Department leadership in: Maintaining SAE (Society for Automotive Engineering), supporting student engagement, recruiting and other College initiatives that relate to this program.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Experience
Must have one of the following:

  • Associate degree in Diesel, Automotive Servicing or related fields including Heavy Duty Equipment Repair or Agricultural Equipment Repair with five (5) years (10,000 hours) experience as a Diesel/Automotive Servicing Technician OR
  • Technical diploma in areas listed above with seven (7) years (14,000 hours) experience as a Diesel/Automotive Servicing Technician
Experience Requirements
In addition, one of the following must be met:
  • At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years OR
  • Two years of teaching Diesel/Automotive Servicing course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.
Certification Must have a current or be able to acquire the following certification within two years of hire
  • ASE Master Technician for Medium Heavy Truck certification in areas T1 through T8

  • Online Information Management Systems - e.g. Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
  • Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard Ultra or other web-based course - management systems
  • Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
  • Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking application

Supplemental Information

Start Date
This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in the Spring Semester. This is a limited term employment opportunity until the end of the Spring 2026 semester. The expected end date for this role is May 23, 2026.

Hours
This is a full-time (32 hours) position serving multiple campuses. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday - Friday. Hours vary based on departmental needs. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2025/2026 rates. Salary determination will be based on years of credited experience listed on the job application and internal salary equity.
