The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida College of Medicine and Student Health Services is currently accepting applications for the Senior Human Resources Director. This position functions as a strategic executive partner, responsible for providing leadership and operational oversight for all HR functions within the College of Medicine, Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, Student Health Services, and indirectly supports UCF Health. This role maintains a dual reporting structure to the Associate Vice President and Chief HR Officer and the Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean, College of Medicine. This high-impact position demands specialized expertise in academic medicine HR, particularly in the expert management of complex employee populations, including Graduate Medical Education and Faculty Physicians. The Director serves as the senior advisor on high-risk employee relations matters, utilizing superior judgment, integrity, and business acumen to navigate sensitive relationships and ensure comprehensive regulatory compliance (including LCME/ACGME guidelines) in a dynamic, matrixed environment.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership:


  • Develop and execute HR strategies and operational plans that are directly aligned with and support the college's academic, research, and complex clinical missions.

  • Serve as a Principal HR Consultant and strategic partner to the College of Medicine (COM) and Health System leadership, providing expert counsel on organizational design, talent management, workforce planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with university leadership and external health system partners to ensure HR initiatives are fully aligned with institutional goals, accreditation requirements (e.g., ACGME, LCME), and operational needs.


Expert Employee & Faculty Relations:


  • Serve as the senior advisor on complex and high-risk employee relations matters, providing expert guidance on investigations, conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and progressive discipline. Partner with the Office of General Counsel as needed to ensure compliance and strategic resolution.

  • Expertly navigate and mediate sensitive employment relationships involving medical doctors who hold both clinical and academic (faculty) appointments. This includes the ability to persuade, influence, and lead difficult, high-stakes conversations to achieve compliant and constructive outcomes.

  • Direct and manage all HR functions related to Graduate Medical Education (GME). Maintain expert knowledge of the unique legal, contractual, and employee relations (ER) challenges and disciplinary processes specific to these programs.


HR Operations & Compliance:


  • Oversee the college's classification and compensation strategy. Collaborate with the University Compensation team to ensure competitive salaries, fair pay practices, and the appropriate classification of roles, approving personnel transactions in Workday.

  • Develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring comprehensive compliance with all university, state, and federal labor laws. Serve as a liaison between the division and University HR Centers of Expertise (CoEs) for areas like leave management, accommodations, and wellness.

  • Lead organizational planning for staffing forecasts, from initial onboarding through employee retention. Develop proactive talent acquisition and retention strategies based on current and future workforce trends.


Team Leadership & Development:


  • Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and development to the HR staff within the college/division. Set clear expectations and metrics to ensure delivery of daily service is met and the team fosters continuous learning and high performance.

  • Collaborate with University HR Centers of Expertise to align data, business processes, and operational strategies with overarching institutional priorities, driving efficiency and best practices.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 7 years in a HR leadership role within academic medicine or healthcare.

  • Expertise and demonstrable experience managing the unique legal, contractual, and employee relations (ER) challenges specific to Graduate Medical Education, Faculty, and Staff.

  • Proficiency in employment law, accreditation standards, and faculty practice pay and incentive plans. Knowledge of ACGME and LCME standards as they pertain to employment is highly preferred.

  • Proven expertise in change management, with a strong ability to successfully guide teams and organizations through complex organizational transitions.

  • History of strategic team leadership focused on talent management, succession planning, and building a high-performing, customer-centric service delivery model.

  • Competence in, or aptitude for, Microsoft Office Suite, modern HRIS and talent management systems; Workday experience is desired.

  • Senior Professional in Human Resources, SPHR and/or SHRM Senior Certified Professional, SHRM-SCP.


The most successful candidates may possess the following qualities:


  • Exceptional executive-level interpersonal and communication skills are required, with a proven capacity to strategically influence and guide senior leadership within a complex, matrixed organizational structure.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage, influence, and manage difficult, high-stakes conversations with senior medical and academic leaders.

  • Exhibits a high level of integrity, logic, and proven business judgment in assessing complex HR situations. Demonstrates the ability to thrive and maintain composure while appropriately escalating matters to the Dean or executive leadership.

  • HR Certifications.


Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $122,980 - $150,000. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
